Beyond the Object
Jewellery can be photographed as a product: precise, polished and reduced to its material qualities. But a ring is rarely experienced that way.
It is worn, touched, chosen, remembered. It becomes part of a hand, a gesture, a person. That thought became the starting point for this series created for Traumringe.
Instead of isolating the pieces from everything around them, the photographs place them in relation to skin, fabric, paper and natural textures. Soft folds of cloth contrast with polished metal, gemstones catch the light against darker surfaces, and close portraits bring the jewellery back to the person who will eventually wear it.
The aim was to preserve the detail and quality expected from jewellery photography without letting the images become sterile. Some frames are quiet and almost minimal, while others feel closer to a fashion editorial. Black and white, hard shadows and tightly cropped portraits create a contrast to the softer product images and give the series a stronger rhythm.
The result is not a catalogue of individual pieces, but a visual story around them. One that allows the jewellery to remain the focus while still suggesting something beyond its material value: how it might feel to wear, choose and eventually connect a memory to it.
